May the 4th Be With You 2

May the 4th Be With You

For those of you who don’t know, and in my experience of driving around town performing errands and reminding people of the significance of May the 4th it would seem that a lot of you don’t know, May the 4th is officially the unofficial Star Wars Day.  Fans and super geeks, it’s OK, I can say that since I am one, celebrate this day with abandon, often with cos-play and with marathon screenings of all nine of the official canon movies in the series.  If you have any working knowledge of the movies at all, and really, how can you not know at least something about them given their immense and enduring popularity, you know that May the 4th is a play on words meant to echo the iconic words from the movie, May the Force Be With You.

I think it is safe to say that no movie had the impact on my generation, I am 48 as I write this, quite like the Star Wars series.  In fact, fans from childhood remain passionate to this day, and many of us have taught that passion to our children and even grandchildren helping the ongoing franchise to continue to be relevant and popular with yet additional generations.

I realize that no one can read this on May 4th because I post date all of my blog posts in order to create a sense of logical consistency about when they publish, so I am about a month ahead of you if you are reading this on release date of June 3.  I flew these two flags, more on that in a second, in honor of May the 4th and perhaps for another slightly subversive reason as well.  Let’s get to it.

Star Wars Resistance and Jedi Order Flags on Our Flagpole

The top flag is the flag of the Star Wars Resistance movement, which arose from the original Rebel Alliance that was strongly featured in Star Wars Episodes IV through VI.  The main carryover players and leaders from the Rebel Alliance to the Resistance movement are Princess Leia Organa and Admiral Ackbar.  Some of the newer main players in Episodes VII and VIII, such as Poe Dameron, had parents who were in the Rebel Alliance.  In short, the Resistance fights against the new overlord of the galaxy, the despotic First Order with its mysterious leader, Supreme Leader Snoke.

I would be hesitant to say much more so that I don’t give away key plot points to anyone, and there might be at least one person, reading this who hasn’t seen the movies already.  Suffice it to say that the symbol or logo of the original Rebel Alliance has moved with its leadership over to the Resistance movement.

Resistance FlagYeah, I know it looks funny but you have to imagine the white field on both top and bottom, which is blended into the white background of the blog screen, but you can imagine the intended effect or just look at the flag pole version.
