New Hampshire – The Granite State

effective, the legislature revised the seal to depict a ship on stocks, with a rising sun in the background, to reflect Portsmouth having become a major shipbuilding center during the war years.

The State Nickname:

New Hampshire is known as the “Granite State.”  Granite is the official state rock of New Hampshire and granite is common in the mountain areas of New Hampshire.  The stone is of sufficient quantity and quality to be quarried and exported for use in counter-tops and statuary.
