Agriculture is still a money maker on Guadeloupe with bananas
having displaced sugar as the largest crop, although there are many other relatively newly introduced agricultural products as well.
As is true of all of Overseas France, the official flag of Guadeloupe is the tricolor of France.
However, Guadeloupe does have an unofficial flag, which is the one flying today.
There are two variations, one of which features a black background field,
the one I am flying, with another variant featuring a red field
in place of the black field seen on my flag pole. Both variations feature a stylized sun and sugar cane with a blue field on the top with three yellow fleurs-de-lis.
In our next post we will visit the nearby French island of Martinique. Stay tuned.
