Love is a force for generation, for building everything from families to bridges literal and figurative.
For all that hatred is destructive, love is generative and today more than ever in recent history with a divided population, a polarized and ineffective government riven with partisanship, it seems to me that love is one thing that we all need more of, perhaps now more than ever.
As hard as it is, if you are a Trump supporter, try to think loving and kind thoughts for those with whom you disagree but with whom you also share humanity, a love of friends and family, and a desire for a better future for the children of today.
And the same applies to those like me who loathe the person President Trump seems to be and the bitter passions he seems to inflame. I, and those like me, must reach out to those we most disagree with politically, socially, and religiously to find the common ground built by love that we can all stand on in order to be generative and constructive of a better world for us all.
Sorry for the long winded explantion of what is probably obvious, but I don’t think there can be a more important message on any flag flying today or any day yet to come.
Love, peace, and joy to us all, Republican, Democrat, gay, straight, bisexual, transgender, Catholic, Protestant, Buddhist, Muslim, non-believer, women, men, children, white supremacists, climate change deniers, terrorists of all stripes and types, yes, ALL of us must find that common ground to achieve something greater for I truly believe that there are core common desires and values that we all share if only we give love enough of a chance for us to see it. At least I hope so.
